A U.S. Airlines passenger yelled out that he was infected by the
lethal virus. The passengers and crew members were hardly entertained,
rushing to call medical teams who scanned the plane in special suits.
Watch the moments of terror.
"Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your
attention please", the U.S. Airlines flight attendant spoke to
passengers about to take off from Philadelphia to the Dominican
Republic. What happened next seems to be taken out of a horror film.
Police officers and medical teams boarded the plane for fear of one of
the passengers being infected by the lethal Ebola virus.
The dramatic scene came as a response to one of the passengers' joke. He talked to the passenger sitting next to him, claiming to be carrying the lethal virus whose death toll has reached nearly 4,000 people in Africa, and which is threatening to spread to the West. The flight attendant who got word of the passenger reported him to the captain, who informed medical sources in the airport.
At this point, people in special suits worn to prevent the virus' infection entered the crowded plane. The stunned passengers are shown in the video covering their mouths with one hand and documenting the events with the other.
The blue-suited men approached the man whose joke became tragic, questioning him for long minutes regarding the circumstances which brought him to say "I have Ebola". In the video which was uploaded online, and has already accumulated hundreds of thousands of watchers, the man is heard saying: "Come on, I was just telling a joke".
The American airline later apologized to the passengers for the inconvenience; for in addition to their panic, the flight suffered a delay lasting over two hours until the fear was removed. The airline representatives stressed that the airline regards the issue with severity, and that the crew acted according to the necessary procedure dictated by American medical protocol.
